It's Autumn Adventure Time: Free Printable Activity Ideas

30th Sep 2025

Autumn is one of ourfavourite seasons for getting outdoors here at Spotty Otter, crisp air, crunchy leaves, woody scents, golden light. And with half term just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to take on your Spotty Otter Autumn Bucket List and keep the kids creatively engaged when you’re home.

To help with that, we’ve put together a set of free printable autumn activity sheets you can download, print, and enjoy together. These are designed to delight little adventurers and get them noticing all the wonders of this magical season.

Our Autumn Printables: What You’ll Find

Here are some of the fun activities included in our pack:

  • Mushroom Facts sheet
  • Fungi colouring sheet

  • Our October Bucket list, with tick boxes so you can mark off what youve completed

These are all free to use — just print and go.

How to Use Them During Half Term

Half term gives you a golden opportunity to mix outdoor adventure with cosy indoor creativity. Here are some ideas for combining the printables with nature outings:

Morning Scavenger Walk
Grab your printable Nature Scavenger Hunt sheet and head out to a local park, woodland, or trail. How many autumn treasures can your little adventurers find? From acorns and feathers to golden leaves and pinecones — there's so much to discover!

Leaf Rubbing Lunch Picnic
Bring along paper and crayons, and collect leaves on your walk. Then, settle down somewhere scenic for an impromptu picnic and a leaf rubbing art session. It's a peaceful way to enjoy nature and create something beautiful together.

Leaf Sorting & Colour Match at Home
After your outdoor exploring, gather round and use our Autumn Colour Matching sheet to sort your collected leaves by shade and shape. Talk about how trees change through the seasons and for extra fun, paint your leaves to make spooky ghost leaves for Halloween decorations!

Mushroom Spotting Adventure
Keep your eyes peeled for mushrooms while you're out and about! Take our Mushroom Fact Sheet with you to learn more as you explore. Then, once you’re back home, wind down by colouring in our mushroom printout, perfect for a quiet autumn afternoon.

Visit a Pumpkin Patch
You can’t go wrong with a pumpkin patch visit during October half term! It’s the perfect way to embrace the season, whether you're hunting for the best carving pumpkin or just enjoying the autumn atmosphere. Don’t forget to bring your camera (and maybe some hot chocolate!).

Throughout the week, you can gradually tick off items on your Spotty Otter Autumn Bucket List. By the end of half term, you’ll have a fun record of your adventures and some homemade art, too.

Why These Activities Matter

  • Connects children to nature — helps them slow down, observe and wonder.

  • Blends indoor and outdoor fun — good balance for mixed-weather weeks.

  • Supports creativity & learning — kids practise drawing, writing, critical thinking.

  • Low-cost, no-pressure — all you need is printer, paper, crayons, and a willingness to roam.
