Two years ago, a conversation with JCB sparked an idea that would become one of the biggest projects in Spotty Otter’s history.

It started simply. A chat about childhood, about getting outside, about clothes that could keep up. Then came a moment that stuck, hearing that JCB families had been wearing Spotty Otter for years. It felt like the beginning of something.

Soon after, we found ourselves walking through the JCB museum.

Surrounded by decades of innovation and those unmistakable yellow, and even red, while and blue machines, everything clicked. The engineering, the heritage, the attention to detail. It was impossible not to feel inspired and the vision for the collection started to take shape right there.

We didn’t want to create just another product. 

We wanted to create something children would feel excited to wear, something that made them want to head outside, jump in puddles, climb higher and dig deeper. Real kit, inspired by what grown-ups wear, but built for muddy adventures and endless energy.

Everything clicked when the first design landed. Hand-drawn JCB machines, past and present, brought to life by our designer Ellie. 

Bold, playful and rooted in real heritage, it felt too good to stop at wellies. This had to become a full look, so we expanded to include dungarees too!

Holding the first samples sealed it. Tough enough for any adventure, comfortable enough to live in and made for the kind of days kids never forget.

Because that’s what this is really about. It’s about children coming home covered in mud, with stories to tell. It’s about fresh air, big imaginations and the kind of childhood that stays with you forever. 

That’s the feeling we’ve tried to capture in our photography and launch video. Real farming kids, real outdoor-loving families coming together and sharing the joy of just being outside.
